The R Club was founded in
1995 to provide a forum for the next generation of Houston conservatives to
actively engage in local and state politics. Our collective goal is as simple
as the straightforward philosophy we share: to help find positive solutions to
the issues we face as a community by promoting the conservative principles of
personal and fiscal responsibility in public service.
In order to pursue this
goal, R Club members are active in a wide variety of civic, charitable,
professional, and political organizations. R Club members have also become
elected officials and judicial officers on the state and local level. All R
Club members are committed to being informed on the issues and taking individual
and collective responsibility for promoting a conservative agenda in Houston and
the State of Texas.
Facilitate Awareness of Issues
To be effective in the
political process, we believe we must not only be informed — but also seek to
inform others. Through our monthly meetings, R Club members interact with
Texas’ and Houston’s top leaders, and we benefit from their unique perspective
on statewide and city developments. We also conduct candidate interviews, hold
informal gatherings, and organize debates to foster open discussions on timely
topics.
Encourage
Public Service
Good government starts
with good people and conservative leadership. Increasingly, however, good
people are less inclined to stand for public office, which is why the R Club
works with state and local leaders to help identify and recruit qualified,
conservative candidates for elected and appointed posts. In that regard,
current and past R Club members have been extremely successful in obtaining
public office, as reflected in the “R Club Officeholders” link on this web site.
Affect
the Outcome of Political Campaigns and Appointments
To ensure our views on
statewide and local issues are represented at all levels
of government, the R Club actively supports like-minded local, state, and federal
candidates through endorsements and direct campaign activities. Additionally,
the Club has established a political action committee through which it
contributes funds to candidates deemed by the membership to best reflect our
commitment to limited government and personal responsibility. A list of
political candidates we endorse is contained in the “Political Endorsements”
link on this web page.
